Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed the squads and captains for the one-day format of the Bangladesh Cricket League on Sunday, but the announcement again left several young players overlooked ahead of the tournament starting on 23 February.
The board handed leadership roles to familiar names. Mehidy Hasan Miraz will lead South Zone, while Najmul Hossain Shanto takes charge of North Zone. Yasir Ali Chowdhury will captain East Zone and Mahidul Islam Ankon leads Central Zone.
Some familiar faces return after missing the Bangladesh Premier League amid fixing suspicions. Enamul Haque Bijoy and Mosaddek Hossain both find places in the BCL squads this time.
Others, once again, do not. Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi, Sheikh Parvez Jibon and Mushfik Hasan, all absent from the recent Durbar Cup, failed to earn selection here as well. The board offered no public explanation for their omission.
Rabbi did not hide his disappointment. “I don’t know if I would call it regret, but it does hurt a little.” His frustration reflects a wider issue around opportunity rather than form.
He stressed the value of exposure. “As players, the more matches we play and the more chances we get, the more we learn.” That point lands hard in a domestic structure meant to develop future internationals.
Rabbi also spoke about the dressing-room experience he missed. “Sharing the dressing room with players who have represented the country for years would have helped me personally.” It is a reminder that learning in domestic cricket often happens off the field as much as on it.
