Mohammad Mezbaul Haque, an executive director of Bangladesh Bank, resigned Tuesday citing personal reasons.
His departure follows political shifts after the fall of the Awami League regime, when senior members of the Finance Ministry administration raised objections to his continued presence in the central bank.
Shortly after, he was reassigned from the Dhaka headquarters to the Rajshahi regional office.
Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan, confirmed Tuesday afternoon that Haque submitted his resignation, attributing it to personal grounds.
The resignation is the latest in a series of high-profile exits at the central bank. Following the change in government, two deputy governors, the head of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit, and a key policy adviser were all pressured to step down.
The former governor, Abdur Rouf Talukder, has not appeared in public since August 5 last year. The interim administration later appointed Ahsan H Mansur as the new governor.
Haque was promoted to executive director in December 2022 and simultaneously named spokesperson.
Prior to that, he had long overseen the central bank’s payment systems department, playing a key role in digital transaction initiatives launched under the Awami League government.
