Amazon Prime Video has secured international streaming rights to the upcoming Baywatch reboot, expanding the iconic lifeguard franchise’s global reach ahead of its 2027 debut, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Under the deal, Prime Video will stream the new series across multiple international territories, including much of Europe—such as France, Germany, Italy and Spain—as well as Canada, Latin America, India and several other markets.
In addition to the reboot, Amazon has also acquired the rights to the Baywatch back catalogue in those territories.
The agreement includes all nine seasons of the original Baywatch series, along with Seasons 9 and 10, which were rebranded as Baywatch Hawaii.
The deal does not include the two-season spin-off Baywatch Nights.
The reboot stars Stephen Amell in the lead alongside Jessica Belkin, Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck and Brooks Nader.
Created by Matt Nix, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer, the series is produced by Fremantle and Fox Entertainment.
Executive producers include McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz, while McG will direct the premiere episode.
The new series has been described as a modern reimagining that celebrates the legacy of the original while introducing the franchise to a new generation of viewers.
The original Baywatch, led by David Hasselhoff, had an unusual journey to global success.
After being cancelled by NBC following its first season, the series found new life through syndication and went on to become one of television’s biggest international hits.
At its peak, Baywatch aired in more than 200 countries and reportedly attracted over one billion viewers each week.
The show also helped launch the careers of several stars, including Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra, Jason Momoa and Yasmine Bleeth, cementing its place as one of the most recognisable television franchises of the 1990s.
The reboot’s first 12-episode season is scheduled to premiere on Fox in January 2027, before arriving on Prime Video in the acquired international territories later that year.
Fox Entertainment Global will retain domestic distribution rights, while Fremantle is handling international sales and brokered the agreement with Amazon.
Announcing the partnership, Michela Di Mondo, Executive Vice President of Distribution, Canada and International at Fremantle, said the company was excited to bring both the new series and the original episodes to audiences around the world.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Prime Video to bring the new Baywatch to audiences across multiple territories, while also giving fans the opportunity to revisit the original series they know and love,” she said.
Di Mondo added that few television shows have enjoyed the same lasting cultural impact as Baywatch, calling the reboot “the beginning of an exciting new chapter” for the beloved franchise.
