Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) marked the Great Independence and National Day‑2026 on 26 March with due dignity, hosting flag‑hoisting, prayers, honours and inter‑faith observances at its headquarters.

Muhammad Ataur Rahman, director general of BARI, inaugurated the programme by raising the national flag at sunrise in front of the institute’s headquarters, in a ceremony attended by senior officials including Md Manjurul Kadir, Director of the Oilseed Research Center; Dr Reshma Sultana, Director of Training and Communication; and Dr Faruque Ahmed, Director of the Horticulture Research Center, along with division heads, scientists, officers and staff, and teachers and students of BARI High School and Anand Shishukanan.

At the event, special prayers were held seeking forgiveness for the departed souls of martyred freedom fighters, healing for those wounded in the war of liberation, and peace, prosperity and progress for the nation.

Following the morning observance, congregational prayers (munajat) were offered after Zuhr at the Central Mosque of BARI, again invoking peace for the martyrs and national wellbeing. Separate prayers were also held at the institute’s temple and church, reflecting BARI’s inclusive commemoration of the day.

The institute’s observance of the anniversary underscored its engagement with national heritage alongside its scientific mandate.
