A case has been filed against an assistant commissioner (land) of Barguna Sadar at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station for allegedly attempting to influence his transfer process by using a forged demi official (DO) letter under the name of National Parliament Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal.
Investigation Inspector Azizur Rahman of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station confirmed the filing of the case to TIMES of Bangladesh.
The case was filed by Md Monir Hossain, director of the Public Relations Subdivision-1 of the Parliament Secretariat, naming Shawon Majumder Suman, the Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Barguna Sadar, as the primary accused.
Several other unidentified individuals have also been accused in connection with the incident.
According to the case statement, Monir learnt through the secretary of the Parliament Secretariat on 24 July that Shawon had created a forged DO letter under the name of Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaysar Kamal.
The deputy speaker’s signature was forged on the letter, which also used official government letterhead.
The prosecution alleges that the forged DO letter was presented, or attempted to be presented, to the relevant authorities to cancel Shawon’s transfer order from Barguna Sadar to Rangabali Upazila in Patuakhali, and instead secure a posting as assistant commissioner (land) in Keraniganj, Dhaka.
The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Penal Code concerning forgery, using forged documents as genuine, cheating, and criminal conspiracy.
Along with the case statement, the authorities submitted a copy of the forged DO letter, a sample of genuine letterhead pad of the Parliament Secretariat, and other necessary documents as evidence.
Police said they will investigate the allegations and take necessary legal action.
