Leaders and activists of the banned organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) reportedly brought out a flash procession in the Noakhali town on Friday.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of activists of the organisation, led by Mehedi Hasan, gathered suddenly in the Noakhali municipality area shortly after the conclusion of Jumma prayers.
The protesters brought out a procession that and marched through key streets of the town, chanting slogans and carrying banners demanding the release of former MP Ekramul Karim Chowdhury.
BCL activists also chanted slogans in the name of Sheikh Hasina. The rally dispersed quickly, and there were no reports of clashes or violence.
Attempts to reach the Officer-in-Charge of Noakhali Sudharam Model Police Station, Touhidul Islam, for comment went unanswered.
At the time of filing this report, there have been no confirmed accounts of police deployment or any individuals being detained in connection with the incident
