A Bangladeshi national has been killed in a Ukrainian drone attack inside Russia.
The deceased, Md Jahangir Hossain, 25, was from Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj. His friend Mridul Hasan confirmed the death in a video message on social media Thursday (21 May).
Mridul is reportedly working at a Russian army camp.
The strike took place on 18 May in a Russian‑controlled border area near Ukraine.
Family members said Jahangir had been lured to Russia by an agency promising employment but was instead deceived and forced into the Russian army.
Sources from relatives and colleagues reported that three Bangladeshi soldiers were killed and one injured in the attack. Alongside Jahangir, the dead include Md Suruj Kazi of Madaripur and Md Yusuf Khan of Cumilla.
In his video message, Mridul alleged, “The Arafa Al Monwar Agency is entirely responsible for this incident. We have lost three friends because of their deception.”
Jahangir’s cousin, Md Ramzan, said he was sent to Russia about three and a half months ago with assurances of a company job. Initially placed on a pig farm, Jahangir and six others were later promised restaurant work but instead handed over to the Russian army and forcibly recruited.
Relatives said only his wife, Mashuka, knew of his enlistment. Jahangir last spoke to his family two weeks ago, telling them he would be out of contact for some time.
Joyka Union Parishad Chairman Humayun Kabir expressed sorrow and said, “I am saddened to hear of the incident. I express my deepest condolences to Jahangir’s family.”
