Bangladeshi diplomats at the United Nations are actively promoting the agenda and vision of the newly elected government through multilateral diplomacy, the Bangladesh Mission in Geneva said.
In a statement, the mission said diplomats, particularly in Geneva, are working to project the government’s priorities to the global community. They are strengthening Bangladesh’s presence across UN offices and agencies.
The diplomats are moving beyond traditional roles and taking a more proactive approach. Their engagement aims to influence global policy discussions on peace, climate change and sustainable development.
The mission said such efforts, described as “proactive diplomacy”, are helping elevate Bangladesh’s voice in international forums.
“We salute all delegates of UN member states for their relentless efforts in advancing multilateral diplomacy to promote a better world for future generations,” the mission said, recalling the founding purpose of the United Nations in 1945.
The remarks came as United Nations organisations observed International Delegates’ Day on Saturday. The day recognises the role of delegates in fostering dialogue, cooperation and multilateral solutions.
Delegates at the UN represent the core of multilateral diplomacy. They engage in negotiations and dialogue to address shared global challenges, including pandemics, climate change, development issues and security threats.
They play a key role in representing national interests, promoting human rights and development, maintaining peace, and coordinating responses to global challenges. Their work spans the UN General Assembly and offices and agencies in Geneva, Austria, Kenya, Rome and France.
