Police have detained a man from Dhamrai in Dhaka on allegations of anti‑state activities.
Md Rakib Hasan was detained during a special operation in the Nanna area of the upazila around 6:30pm on Saturday, police said.
Dhamrai Police Station’s Officer‑in‑Charge Mohammad Nazmul Khan Bhuiyan said Rakib was arrested based on specific intelligence from a special police branch. The agency is directly handling the case, with local police assisting in the field operation.
Authorities allege Rakib attempted to destabilise the country’s current situation and consider him a threat to national stability.
Sources said Rakib is linked to banned extremist group Dawlatul Islam. He is reportedly a friend and batchmate of a former army member from Rangpur, who maintains regular contact with Ishtiaq Ahmed, a member of the outlawed organisation, and another dismissed army officer.
