Today, 08 March, marks International Women’s Day, a global occasion dedicated to recognising the achievements and contributions of women across different fields, including sport. The day is widely celebrated through various initiatives and events around the world.
In Bangladesh cricket, the women’s team has made significant strides in recent years. To mark the occasion, players of the Bangladesh women’s national cricket team were welcomed with flowers at the academy ground of Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
The cricketers, led by captain Nigar Sultana Joty, received floral greetings from Rubaba Dowla, head of the women’s wing at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The players were later seen sharing smiles and posing for photographs during the celebration.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh ODI captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz also paid tribute to the country’s women cricketers on the occasion.
In a video released by the BCB, Miraz praised the contributions of the women’s team and extended his wishes to women across the country.
“The Bangladesh women’s cricket team has made important contributions over the past few years, and it is certainly a proud moment for the country,” he said. “Best wishes to everyone on Women’s Day. The way the women’s team has performed and progressed is a major achievement for Bangladesh. From my side, I wish all women a very happy Women’s Day.”
