Bangladesh won nine medals, including six golds, at the Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC) 2026, with students competing against 2,285 participants from 1,113 educational institutions across 40 countries and regions.
The team secured six gold, one silver and two bronze medals, according to a press release issued on Thursday.
Among the winners, Redwan Kabir (Avro), a ninth-grade English version student at Motijheel Ideal School and College, won a bronze medal in the Math Master Mind Challenge and received an Honorable Mention in the Math Olympiad Contest.
SIMOC is an international mathematics competition that assesses analytical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork through events including the Math Olympiad, Math Warriors and the Math Master Mind Challenge.
The awards were presented on July 21 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre in Singapore in the presence of ambassadors, high commissioners, diplomats and education representatives from 25 countries.
Bangladesh was represented at the ceremony by International Olympiad Bangladesh founder and chairman Tanvirul Haque, Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore Charge d’Affaires and Commercial Counsellor Lutfun Nahar and Second Secretary Sheikh Md Faisal.
Redwan’s father, fintech and digital banking consultant Firoz Kabir, said the recognition reflected the combined efforts of his family, teachers, mentors, International Olympiad Bangladesh and the organisers, adding that he hoped his son would continue representing Bangladesh with distinction in future international competitions.
The organisers said the results highlighted the growing competitiveness of Bangladeshi students in international mathematics contests and would encourage greater participation in science, technology and innovation.
