The ongoing heatwave sweeping parts of the country will continue, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

A latest bulletin issued by the Met office on Thursday morning reported that a mild to moderate heatwave is affecting Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions, as well as Chandpur, Noakhali and Brahmanbaria districts, and may persist.

The forecast also warned of rain in different regions over the next 24 hours from 9am.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds and lightning, are likely at a few places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at one or two spots in Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions.

Moderately heavy falls may occur in some areas.

Daytime temperatures may drop slightly in the northeast but remain nearly unchanged elsewhere. Night temperatures are expected to hold steady.

The bulletin noted that discomfort may persist due to increased moisture incursion.

On Wednesday, the highest temperature was 38.5°C in Dinajpur under Rangpur division, while Thursday’s minimum was 23.5°C in Sylhet. Sunset in Dhaka is at 6:43pm, with sunrise Friday at 5:11am.
