Bangladesh finished the powerplay on 44 for 1, recovering well after the early loss of Tanzid Hasan in their Super Four clash against India in Dubai.
The chase began shakily for Bangladesh. Hardik Pandya’s opening over yielded just four runs, before Jasprit Bumrah struck in the second. Tanzid, attempting a flick, got a leading edge that ballooned up for Shivam Dube to take a simple catch. He departed for 1 off 3 balls, leaving Bangladesh 4 for 1.
Parvez Hossain, joining Saif Hassan, initially struggled against Bumrah. He faced four consecutive dot balls before managing to get off the mark, helped by a wide and a boundary.
Momentum began to shift in the third over. Saif Hassan faced all six balls from Pandya, striking boundaries off the first and last deliveries while also picking up a double. Ten runs came from the over, lifting the total to 19 for 1 after three.
Bangladesh carried their intent into the fifth over, targeting Varun Chakravarthy. Parvez struck two boundaries and Saif added another as 13 runs were plundered, moving the score to 35 for 1.
The highlight of the powerplay arrived in the sixth over. Having previously struggled against Bumrah, scoring just a single from eight balls faced — Parvez produced a stunning response. On the third ball, he launched the pacer for an 85-metre six over long-on, a rare sight against India’s spearhead.
By the end of six overs, Bangladesh had reached 44 for 1, with Parvez settling in alongside Saif after overcoming a shaky start.
