Bangladesh Women produced another commanding performance in the T20 World Cup qualifiers on Friday, defeating Scotland by 90 runs to maintain an unbeaten streak of six consecutive wins. The victory also marked the team’s second-highest T20 total, with captain Nigar Sultana Joty and Sobhana Mostari leading the charge.
After winning the toss at the Tribhuvan Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Nepal, Bangladesh opted to bat. Openers Dilara Akter and Juairiya Ferdous provided a flying start with a 67-run partnership in the powerplay. “We wanted to get off to a fast start in the powerplay, and thankfully our batters executed it well,” said a team official. Dilara scored 39 off 28 balls before being caught attempting a lofted shot off Catherine Bryce, while Juairiya contributed 22 from 22 deliveries. Sharmin Akter Supta followed, run out for 15, leaving Bangladesh three wickets down.
The innings was then rescued by Joty and Sobhana, who added a 100-run partnership that propelled Bangladesh to a formidable total of 191 for five. Joty, who had struggled in the first five matches of the tournament with just 48 runs, came alive against Scotland, striking a six over long-on off Chloe Abel to reach a half-century from 33 balls. Sobhana complemented her innings with 47 runs from 23 balls at a strike rate of 204, hitting seven fours and two sixes. Joty remained unbeaten on 56 and was later named player of the match.
Chasing 192, Scotland struggled from the outset. Dasi Cutter was dismissed on the very first ball, followed shortly by Eaten Catherine Fraser and Catherine Bryce. Ilsa Lister and Sarah Bryce fell before the team reached fifty. Meger Mackle scored 20, Pin Sproule 27, and Priyanaz Chatterjee 14, but Scotland were ultimately restricted to 101 runs in their 20 overs. For Bangladesh, Marufa Akter took three wickets while Swarna Akter claimed two.
