Two prisoners from Dhaka Central Jail (Keraniganj), including a man sentenced in a crimes against humanity case, have died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

DMCH Police Camp In-Charge Md Faruk confirmed the matter. He stated that the bodies have been kept in the morgue for post-mortem examinations.

The deceased were identified as Zahid Mia, 75, and Anis, 62.

According to jail sources, Zahid was admitted to ward number 601 of the Medicine Department at DMCH on 22 January after falling ill in prison. He passed away at around 10:30pm on Thursday.

Zahid was a resident of Muriauk village in Lakhai upazila, Habiganj. He had been in custody since his arrest at his home in November 2017.

The other inmate, Anis, was admitted to ward number 218 of the Surgery Department on 24 January. He died at around 9:30pm on Thursday while undergoing treatment.

Details regarding his specific address and the nature of his case were not immediately available.
