Bangladesh Betar has rescinded its controversial office order regarding “dress code” guidelines for news presenters following criticism across various platforms, including social media.

The decision to cancel the previous directive was announced on Sunday, through a new office order signed by ASM Zahid, director general (current charge) of Bangladesh Betar.

This move follows an earlier order issued on 4 May by Tania Naznin, director (News) of Bangladesh Betar’s Central News Agency. That directive had established specific attire requirements for presenters, particularly in the context of broadcasting news bulletins on Facebook Live.

The original order, which has now been revoked, mandated separate rules for male and female presenters.

Women were directed to wear either a saree or salwar kameez with an orna. Additionally, the instructions prohibited the wearing of large teeps and specified that the orna could not be draped over just one side.

For male presenters, the guidelines required long-sleeved shirts and ties, although panjabis were permitted during religious and cultural festivals. The use of T-shirts and vests (genjis) was strictly prohibited under the now-cancelled guidelines.
