In a bid to conserve electricity and fuel across the country, Bangladesh Bank has set new office and transaction hours for banks and financial institutions, effective from Sunday.
According to a circular issued by the Bangladesh Bank on Saturday, bank offices will operate from 10am to 5pm from Sunday to Thursday, aligning with the government’s revised office timings.
Under the new schedule, banking transactions will be limited to 3pm, although bank offices will remain open until 5pm. Customer transactions will be conducted only between 10am and 3pm.
The directive clarified that bank branches, sub-branches, booths located in sea, land, and airport areas will continue to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, following the 2019 guidelines.
According to a separate circular issued on the same day, financial institutions will also operate from 10am to 5pm from Sunday to Thursday. Friday and Saturday will be observed as weekly holidays.
The central bank said that these instructions were issued under the powers conferred by relevant sections of the Bank Company Act, 1991, and the Finance Company Act, 2023. The new timings will remain in effect until further notice.
