Bangladesh’s hockey team prepares for the 2026 Asian Games Qualifier, now set in Bangkok, Thailand, from April 1 to 10, after the venue changed from Muscat, Oman. The Asian Hockey Federation shifted the tournament location amid rising tensions in the Middle East, ensuring player safety remains a priority. Bangladesh Hockey Federation made no delay announcing the final squad on Thursday for the Bangkok test.
Originally due to fly to Oman on Wednesday, the squad now embarks on their journey to Bangkok on March 31. This tournament features nine teams, with Bangladesh facing tough Pool B opponents: Chinese Taipei, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan. The stakes couldn’t be higher, as only the top four teams will advance to the prestigious Asian Games in Japan later this year.
The squad announcement showcases a blend of experience and youth. Captain Fazle Hossain Rabbi leads the charge, while co-captain Biplob Kujur stands ready to rally the troops. The inclusion of players like Mohammad Huzaifa Hossain and Amirul Islam strengthens Bangladesh’s defence, while midfielders like Mehrab Hasan Samin and Roman Sarker promise creative flair. The nine-team tournament features tough competition, including Pool A rivals Hong Kong, Thailand, Kazakhstan, and Indonesia.
With the clock ticking down, Bangladesh’s preparations intensify. The squad aims to harness their determination and collective spirit, transforming potential into performance.
