Bangla Academy has undertaken an elaborate day-long programme to observe the Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day on February 21, 2026.
The observances will begin at 12:30 am with the laying of wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar, marking tribute to the Language Movement martyrs.
At 8:00 am, a poetry recitation session will be held at the Nazrul Stage of the academy. The session will be presided over by noted poet Abdul Hai Shikdar.
As part of the day’s commemorations, the Amar Ekushey Lecture 2026 will take place at 11:00 am at the Academy’s Nazrul Stage. The welcome address will be delivered by Bangla Academy Director General Professor Mohammad Azam.
Distinguished economist Dr Mashiur Ullah will deliver the Amar Ekushey Lecture titled “School–Madrasa–College: Harmonising Education.” The session will be chaired by Bangla Academy President Professor Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque.
The programmes are being organised to pay homage to the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement and to reaffirm the nation’s commitment to the spirit of Ekushey.
