Gono Odhikar Parishad has submitted a nine-point written proposal to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to ensure the 13th National Parliament Election is held freely, fairly, and impartially.
One of the key proposals is that no adviser of the current interim government should be allowed to participate in the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election.
The proposal was presented by Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur during a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission on Wednesday.
Gono Odhikar Parishad believes that, if advisers are allowed to participate in the election, it will raise questions about the election’s integrity. Therefore, a provision must be added to ensure that no adviser of the current interim government can participate in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Elections.
The other 8 recommendations put forward by Gono Odhikar Parishad in its proposal were: Ensuring voting rights for expats; not involving individuals associated with political parties, institutions, or specific persons in electoral duties, including as returning officers or presiding officers; installing CC cameras in each polling centre and setting up a giant screen outside the centre for the public to observe the voting process and vote counting inside; allowing candidates’ agents to accompany ballot boxes from the time they are sent from the polling centre to the returning officer at the upazila level until they are received; ensuring journalists’ access to polling centres and suspending the acceptance of results if there are allegations of centre capture or ballot stuffing; taking action based on evidence if supporters of any candidate obstruct the electoral activities of another candidate’s supporters or engage in intimidation; refraining from assigning electoral duties to any official who has performed such duties in the last three elections (2014, 2018, 2024); and restructuring the administration after the announcement of the election schedule.
