A beloved soundtrack of Pohela Boishakh celebrations, ‘Baje Re Baje Dhol Ar Dhak’, is set to make a comeback, 18 years after it first gained popularity. Long associated with the festive spirit of the Bengali New Year, the track is being reintroduced in a refreshed format aimed at younger listeners.
Originally released 18 years ago and voiced by Close-up One contestant Sonia, the track quickly became a seasonal staple, echoing across cultural events and gatherings both in Bangladesh and among diaspora communities. Its enduring popularity has prompted a revival that blends nostalgia with a modern sensibility.
The new version is spearheaded by original composer Shawkat Ali Emon, who has reworked the arrangement while retaining the song’s festive core.
Featuring updated instrumentation and a contemporary visual treatment, the project brings together a new line-up of vocalists, including Zanita Ahmed Zhilik, Zinia Zafrin Luipa, Atiya Anisha and Zakiya Sultana Kornia, alongside Emon. Lyrics remain by Kabir Bakul.
The accompanying music video has already been filmed in Dhaka, with production led by Chandan Roy Chowdhury. The track is scheduled for release on Gaanchill’s YouTube channel on April 9.
