Nearly two decades after Awarapan earned cult status among Bollywood fans, Emraan Hashmi is returning as the brooding Shivam Pandit in Awarapan 2.
According to Hindustan Times, the makers unveiled the film’s action-packed trailer on Wednesday, offering a glimpse into the troubled protagonist’s latest journey of revenge, redemption and survival ahead of its theatrical release on 14 August.
The trailer reunites audiences with Shivam Pandit almost 19 years after the original film.
Still haunted by the death of Aaliyah, played by Shriya Saran in the first instalment, Shivam remains burdened by grief while confronting a new chapter filled with violence and emotional turmoil.
Emraan Hashmi effortlessly slips back into one of his most celebrated roles, portraying a man who continues to battle both his past and his enemies.
The trailer opens with a striking visual of Shivam hanging from a pole in heavy rain, pierced through the chest by a metal rod.
The tense sequence introduces veteran actor Shabana Azmi as the formidable antagonist Nafisa, who taunts him, saying, “Kitni haseen shakal hai, maut se milne ka shauq hai tumhein?” (What a beautiful face. Are you so eager to meet death?)
As the trailer unfolds, it blends high-octane action with emotional moments. Disha Patani appears as Zara, hinting at a new emotional connection in Shivam’s life, while several new adversaries emerge to challenge him.
One of the trailer’s standout dialogues sees Shivam reflecting on his fate: “Maut, mera usse ek purana rishta hai, ek karz hai,” suggesting his long-standing relationship with death remains unfinished.
The supporting cast includes Puran Gabbi as Zorawar, Anirudh Rawal as Sikandar, Surendar Vicky as Jaideep, Vijayant Kohli as Mehmood and Atul Kumar as Samarth.
Another intriguing sequence shows Shivam being cared for by monks before joining them on a spiritual path, only for the story to return to brutal confrontations and bloody action.
The trailer deliberately keeps the central plot under wraps, ending with Shivam’s chilling warning: “Ek-ek karke maroge ya sab saath mein?” (Will you die one by one, or all together?)
Music, one of the defining elements of the original Awarapan, once again plays a central role in the sequel.
The soundtrack features compositions by Mithoon, Jeet Gannguli, Amaal Malik, Ankit Sachdev and Wasif Ahmad, with lyrics penned by Sayeed Qadri, Rashmi Virag, Akhil Sachdeva and Sachin Singh Chandel.
Songs such as Ve Junoon, Yeh Awarapan and Toh Phir Aao have already generated excitement among fans, while Tera Mera Rishta, composed by Mithoon and sung by Saaj Bhatt and Subodhh Sharma, adds emotional depth to the trailer.
Meanwhile, Awarapan 2 has received a U/A 16+ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after several modifications.
Following the required edits, the film’s final runtime stands at 2 hours, 20 minutes and 20 seconds.
Presented by Vishesh Films and Mukesh Bhatt, Awarapan 2 is produced by Vishesh Bhatt, directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui.
The film stars Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles and is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on 14 August, with Pen Marudhar distributing the film across India.
