The much-awaited Bollywood film Awarapan 2 is scheduled for release in India on 14 August to coincide with India’s Independence Day. The film may also arrive in Bangladeshi cinemas on the same day.
According to sources, an application has already been submitted to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting seeking permission to screen the Hindi-language film in Bangladesh.
Sources close to the development said Action Cut Entertainment has taken the initiative to import and distribute the Emraan Hashmi-starrer in the country. The company reportedly submitted its application under the SAFTA agreement to the ministry on Tuesday, seeking approval for the film’s release.
The same sources said that if the ministry grants permission, there will be no obstacle to releasing Awarapan 2 in Bangladeshi cinemas on 14 August.
The distributor is also reportedly planning to bring several other high-profile Bollywood films to Bangladesh in the future.
According to sources, plans are underway to release Yash’s Toxic and Shah Rukh Khan’s King after Awarapan 2. However, the release of both films will also depend on government approval.
The history of Hindi film releases in Bangladesh is relatively short.
For many years after independence, Bangladesh imposed strict restrictions on the import of foreign films, particularly Hindi-language productions, to protect the local film industry. That policy changed in 2015 when Salman Khan’s Wanted was released in Bangladeshi cinemas. Another long gap followed.
Nearly eight years later, Action Cut Entertainment reopened the market for Hindi films by releasing Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan in Bangladesh. It was followed by Jawan, Stree 2, Mr & Mrs Mahi and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.
However, no new Hindi film has been released in Bangladesh over the past two years.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 stars Emraan Hashmi alongside Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi and others. The film serves as a sequel to Awarapan, which was released nearly two decades ago, and has generated significant anticipation among audiences.
