Gono Odhikar Parishad has announced a nationwide protest programme for Saturday in response to the violent attack on its president and former Dhaka University Central Students’ Union(DUCSU) vice president Nurul Haque Nur.
The party will stage marches in all 64 districts at around 12 noon, followed by a central rally in front of its Dhaka headquarters at 3pm.
The announcement came late Friday from General Secretary Rashed Khan during a briefing outside Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where Nur is being treated for severe injuries.
Rashed said the assault was more brutal than anything seen under the Awami League government. “Even during the Awami League’s rule, we were not attacked like this. The government must explain why Nurul Haque Nur is now in the ICU,” he said.
He issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the military leadership and advisers of the interim government, demanding accountability. “We are not directly accusing the Army Chief, but he must clarify whether the attack happened with his knowledge or not,” said Rashed.
Gono Odhikar leader also called on Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to clarify whether the assault was linked to Home Affairs Adviser Khuda Baksh. “If no answer comes within 24 hours, and if any further incidents occur, the government must take full responsibility,” he said.
