The Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) has expressed deep concern and condemnation over incidents of post-election violence across Bangladesh following the 13th parliamentary election and referendum.
According to media reports, one person was killed in Munshiganj and another in Bagerhat during clashes.
Over 200 people were reportedly injured in attacks across several districts, including Sylhet, Comilla, Narsingdi, Feni, Gazipur, Natore, Jhalokathi, Narail, Pabna, Bogura, Faridpur, Barguna, Jhenaidah, Chandpur, Patuakhali, Kishoreganj, and Dinajpur.
One woman was also allegedly subjected to sexual assault, a violation both of criminal law and fundamental human rights.
ASK emphasised that the state has a constitutional duty to protect the life, safety, and dignity of every citizen. The organisation highlighted that safeguarding women, minorities, and socially vulnerable groups is a core responsibility of both political leadership and the government.
ASK has called on all political parties to issue strict instructions to grassroots workers to prevent retaliatory violence, attacks, intimidation, or sexual assaults. The organisation stressed that political differences should never justify violence or human rights violations.
The human rights body also urged law enforcement and administrative authorities to investigate each incident promptly, impartially, and credibly, ensuring that victims of sexual violence receive immediate protection, medical care, psychological support, and legal assistance.
ASK warned that ensuring a peaceful and secure post-election environment is essential for maintaining a democratic system and protecting the rights of all citizens.
