Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyian, the spokesperson for the National Citizen Party (NCP), has declared a firm stance against the capturing of polling centres in the upcoming elections.
He made the remarks on Wednesday at a roadside meeting organised by Jamaat-e-Islami at Companyganj Bazar, he urged the public to resist any attempts to take over voting centres.
Asif called upon the residents to vote for the 11-party alliance candidate, Yusuf Sohail, under the ‘Scale’ (Dandipalla) symbol to ensure the development of Muradnagar, protect the honour of women, and eliminate extortion.
“Muradnagar is my birthplace; no matter where I am in Bangladesh, you are always in my heart,” he stated, noting that during his tenure last year, he worked specifically for the development-deprived and discriminated region.
He further criticised previous representatives for allegedly complaining to the highest levels of government regarding the size of the budgets allocated to the area.
The NCP spokesperson also recalled the era of the “Dada Bahini,” whose members carried aliases such as “Terminal” and “Pistol,” asserting that such elements would no longer have a place in Muradnagar.
He assured the electorate that the 11-party alliance would ensure the public can vote without fear and pledged that Bangura Bazar would be upgraded to an upazila (sub-district) if they are elected.
Saiful Islam Shohid, Secretary of Cumilla North District Jamaat, also addressed the gathering, stating that the alliance does not wish to see dual citizens in Parliament.
He urged voters to support the 11-party alliance candidate, Yusuf Hakim, to establish a “Bangladesh of justice”.
The alliance candidate for the Cumilla-3 (Muradnagar) constituency, Yusuf Sohail, spoke out against Indian hegemony, extortionists, and “stone-eaters”. Warning against any interference in the electoral process scheduled for February 12, he declared that if any obstacles are placed in the way of voting, a “fire of resistance” would be ignited from Muradnagar.
