Popular singer Asif Akbar has come out in support of Beauty Rani Pal, the schoolteacher from Sylhet’s Fenchuganj whose social media reel has sparked widespread debate online.
In a lengthy post shared on his verified Facebook page, Asif praised the teacher and thanked her for promoting a positive learning environment, describing her actions as well within her rights.
Recalling his own school days, the singer wrote that his late cultural teacher, Kalyani Sen Gupta of Gulbagicha School in Cumilla, introduced him to recitation, drama, music and other cultural activities.
He added that she had even taught him how to lead milad prayers.
“Teachers are responsible for shaping students. Parents send their children to school with that expectation. Our culture teaches restraint, not extremism,” he wrote.
Referring to Beauty Rani Pal, Asif said she was a highly educated teacher who encouraged students through an enjoyable learning environment.
“Beauty Rani Pal Madam is one such teacher. She expressed her feelings through the popular 1990s song Shraboner Meghgulo. That is her right.”
Commenting on the criticism surrounding the teacher, Asif said people in the country were already burdened with various concerns and should not allow anyone to exploit such situations for “blind games”.
He also recalled that during his school years, education was balanced with cultural activities and entertainment.
While acknowledging that some people now question the appointment of cultural teachers in schools, he stressed that children’s intellectual and cultural development remains essential.
Highlighting the importance of arts and culture in nurturing future generations, Asif concluded his post by writing:
“Let future generations grow up in a joyful, vibrant and healthy environment. Historically, Bangladesh is a country rich in arts and culture, not a gas chamber. Beauty Rani Pal Madam, thank you and congratulations.”
Beauty Rani Pal recently drew both praise and criticism after posting a reel featuring the popular 1990s song Shraboner Meghgulo.
Earlier, singer Mezbah Rahman also defended the teacher, saying he found nothing inappropriate in the video and that she should not face disciplinary action over it.
