Bangladesh Cricket Board director Asif Akbar gifted the Holy Quran to Sports State Minister Aminul Haque during a late-night visit to the minister’s residence on Saturday, framing the gesture as one of respect, faith and brotherhood. Asif went to Aminul’s home after 10pm, spoke briefly, and avoided any political or administrative agenda.
Asif, who also chairs the BCB’s Game Development Committee, confirmed the visit himself. He made it clear the meeting carried no hidden discussion or negotiation. The gesture stood purely on personal grounds.
This personal connection is noteworthy given the recent friction in Bangladesh’s sports administration. Following the October BCB elections that formed a new board under Aminul Islam Bulbul, the current State Minister had previously labeled that board illegal before taking office. However, Asif Akbar believes the minister is rightly separating past political rhetoric from his current duties, a change he says is already evident.
Asif elaborated on this crucial distinction, explaining that in the past, Aminul Haque spoke as the sports affairs secretary of a political party, but now he speaks as a minister. He stressed that this difference is important and expressed appreciation that the minister understands it. He framed this new role as one demanding thoughtful restraint rather than partisan statements.
