Additional Attorney General Mohammad Arshadur Rauf has been appointed Acting Attorney General of Bangladesh.
A notification in this regard was issued by the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs on Thursday, following the President’s directive.
The notification stated, “Arshadur Rauf has been given the additional responsibility of the Attorney General’s office.”
Following the fall of the Awami League government after the July mass uprising, senior Supreme Court lawyer Md Asaduzzaman was appointed as the 17th Attorney General of Bangladesh on 8 August, 2024.
However, on 27 December, 2025, Mohammad Asaduzzaman submitted his resignation letter to the President through the Ministry of Law, citing personal reasons for his decision to participate in the upcoming elections.
Mohammad Asaduzzaman has already submitted his nomination for the Jhenidah-1 (Shailkupa) constituency as the BNP-nominated candidate.
In light of this, a notification has been issued appointing Mohammad Arshadur Rauf, Additional Attorney General, to take over the additional responsibility of the Attorney General’s office.
On 13 August, 2024, Mohammad Arshadur Rauf, along with two other Supreme Court lawyers, was appointed as an Additional Attorney General. The other two appointees were Muhammad Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan and  Mohammad Anik Rushd Haque, (Anik R Haque).
