Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi has never been one to shy away from expressing his opinions, reports Hindustan Times.
Speaking about the long-running debate around nepotism in the film industry, the actor acknowledged that star kids may find it easier to enter Bollywood but insisted that long-term success ultimately depends on talent.
In a podcast with Filmygyan, Arshad said that nepotism was not a major topic of discussion when he began his career.
According to him, the debate gained momentum after Kangana Ranaut brought the issue into the spotlight.
“Kangana came out with the idea of nepotism, and then it became big, and everyone started talking about it,” Arshad said.
“Yes, it exists, but it does not bother me. My heart tells me that, at the end of the day, it is about how talented you are, and that determines how far you will go.”
However, the actor also believes that being a star kid comes with its own pressures.
Drawing from his experience as a father, Arshad said that children of celebrities often face overwhelming expectations from the public.
“Today, I see that happening with my own children. Because they are my kids, people assume they have to be good actors. I feel like saying, ‘Oh my God, don’t say that.’ Everyone has their own personality,” he said.
According to Arshad, star kids are expected to live up to the reputation of their famous parents, which can be unfair.
“The most that can happen is that a door may open faster for them. But if you are not talented, that door will shut very quickly,” he added.
Arshad also spoke about his hopes for his children. He said he is not worried about whether they achieve success or face failure. Instead, he wants them to become skilled performers who understand their craft.
The actor believes that young performers entering the industry today are increasingly well-prepared, making it important for aspiring actors to develop their talent and knowledge of the profession.
Arshad Warsi has two children, a son, Zeke Warsi, and a daughter, Zene Zoe Warsi.
Arshad is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Ghamasaan. Directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, the film also stars Pratik Gandhi, Rajpal Yadav and Ishita Dutta in key roles. It is scheduled to premiere on ZEE5 on 11 September.
He will also appear in King, directed by Siddharth Anand. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role, alongside Deepika Padukone, Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and others.
The movie marks Shah Rukh Khan’s return to the big screen after two years and is scheduled for a theatrical release on 24 December.
