A member of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) was shot dead by assailants in Ukhiya’s Kutupalong camp in Cox’s Bazar early Thursday.
Md Zubair, 34, son of Rahmat Ullah of the same camp, was attacked around 3:30am in Block H‑29 of Camp‑8 West at Madhurchhara Irani Hill, said APBn‑14 commander (Additional DIG) Mohammad Siraj Amin.
Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing, though their identities were not disclosed as the investigation is ongoing, the APBn official added.
Witnesses said Zubair was walking from his home toward a mosque when gunmen opened fire near the house of a man named Ibrahim, shooting at least five rounds.
Locals rushed him to a health centre, but he died on the way. Police later reached the scene and brought the situation under control.
Siraj Amin said initial information suggests the killing may have stemmed from internal conflict between ARSA and the Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO).
He added that Zubair’s presence at the location in the early hours was suspicious and the matter is being investigated seriously.
Police operations are continuing to identify and arrest others involved.
