The Bangladesh Army has been deployed in flood-hit areas of Chattogram to assist the civil administration in rescue and relief operations as heavy rainfall and hill runoff triggered flash floods across the district.
The deployment was made under the “In Aid to Civil Power” arrangement following an urgent request from the Chattogram deputy commissioner, according to an ISPR statement issued on Friday.
Troops from the 10th Infantry Division and 24th Infantry Division are conducting search, rescue and relief operations in several affected upazilas.
Four upazilas – Lohagara, Satkania, Chandanaish and Banshkhali – have been severely affected by continuous rainfall and hill runoff, leaving around 4 lakh people stranded and suffering from the flooding.
The 10th Infantry Division has deployed rescue teams and necessary equipment to the affected areas to assist in emergency operations.

Meanwhile, severe flooding has also hit Boalkhali, Hathazari and Fatikchhari upazilas due to persistent monsoon rains. Personnel from the 24th Infantry Division have been deployed there to carry out rescue and relief activities.
The army is conducting search and rescue operations for people trapped by floodwaters. To ensure faster and more coordinated operations, the 24th Infantry Division has established three camps in the affected areas.

The statement said the Bangladesh Army remains committed to supporting the civil administration during natural disasters and protecting the lives and property of affected people.
It added that the army’s rescue and relief activities would continue until the situation improves and normalcy returns to the flood-hit areas.
