The army has recovered a total of 28 locally made weapons, including a toy pistol, during an operation in the Puran Bazar area of Chandpur town early Monday.

According to Lt Mohammad Jabid Hasan, operational officer of the Bangladesh Army in Chandpur, the seized items include one toy pistol, 16 large knives, three small knives, and eight machetes.

He said, “A local teenage gang in Puran Bazar had been stockpiling these weapons. They were planning to attack a rival group when the army conducted the raid based on a tip-off and recovered the weapons before they could act.”

No arrests had been made as of 9am on Monday, he added. However, police have been instructed to identify and detain those involved.

It may be mentioned that since September 2024, the Bangladesh Army has been assisting the civil administration across the country in recovering illegal weapons and arresting suspected criminals and drug traffickers. The Chandpur operation was part of that ongoing nationwide drive.
