Grants for institutions, staff and students

Recognised non-government general educational institutions – both MPO (Monthly Pay Order) and non-MPO – can apply for grants to fund repairs, renovations, furniture procurement, library establishment, sports equipment, and improvements for disability accessibility. The ministry noted that institutions in geographically disadvantaged areas will be given priority.

Teachers and staff of non-government general educational institutions may apply for grants in cases of chronic illness or accidental emergencies. Applicants must provide a copy of their National ID (NID), a certificate from the head of the institution, and medical certification from a government hospital.

Students of both government and non-government general institutions are eligible for grants to cover costs related to chronic illness, accidents, or general educational expenses.

Priority will be accorded to students who are impoverished, disabled, from the third gender, orphaned, meritorious, or from underprivileged communities.

Secondary and higher secondary students must provide their birth registration certificate and an institutional head’s recommendation. Undergraduate and postgraduate students are required to submit a certificate from their Departmental Head along with their birth certificate or NID.

Terms and conditions

Applications for institutions must be filed by the head of the entity, while students and staff must apply through their respective heads or registrars.

All applicants are required to provide bank account details and a PDF copy of an MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) cheque. Grants for teachers, staff, and students will be disbursed via mobile banking.

The ministry clarified that institutions and staff may only receive this benefit once; those who have previously received a grant are ineligible to reapply. Students are permitted to apply once every three years throughout their academic life.

For students with disabilities, a certificate from the District or Upazila Social Services Officer is mandatory, while third-gender applicants must provide a certificate from a government hospital doctor.

The authorities warned that incomplete applications or hardcopy submissions will not be accepted. Furthermore, legal action may be taken against any applicant who violates the terms or provides false information. Detailed guidelines and policies are available on the official website: www.shed.gov.bd.
