Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, has said that although the July uprising created immense possibilities in the country, the apprehensions have not been completely dispelled, adding that this is because the ousted autocrat is engaged in various conspiracies at home and abroad.
The Jamaat Ameer made these remarks as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting during a citizens’ gathering organised by Kafrul West Thana in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
He said, “Those who will come to power or wish to go to power in the future must perform their duties with a sense of accountability to their conscience and answerability to Allah. They must work for the people. Otherwise, the outcome will not be in their favour.”
The Jamaat Ameer said, “We have been continuing our movement and struggle for a long time to establish a just and fair society in the country. And this struggle will continue until the final victory of this movement is achieved.”
The gathering, presided over by Central Working Committee member and Nayeeb-e-Ameer of Dhaka Metropolis North, Abdur Rahman Musa, was attended by Central Working Committee member and Secretary of Dhaka Metropolis North, Dr Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Central Vice-President of the Labor Welfare Federation, Laskar Mohammad Taslim, and Dhaka Metropolis North Working Committee member Shah Alam Tuhin, among others.
At the gathering, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said, “We want to build a new, just Bangladesh where everyone, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, women and men, will be free from all kinds of fear and apprehension.”
“Those who were in power in the past could not provide the people with a fear-free environment. Therefore, thinking about the future, we must make decisions for the future of Bangladesh with knowledge and understanding,” he added.
