Apex Spinning & Knitting Mills has resumed full factory operations from Saturday after a temporary shutdown triggered by labour unrest last week, restoring production following what the company described as stabilisation of workplace conditions.
In a disclosure to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the company said on Sunday that its board and management decided to restart normal production after constructive discussions with concerned stakeholders, adding that a conducive working environment had been restored.
The resumption follows the company’s 23 June decision to suspend operations under Section 13(1) of the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006, in response to labour unrest linked to what it had termed “unlawful demands over service benefits.”
The suspension had placed around 5,000 workers on layoff during the disruption.
With conditions normalised, Apex Spinning said it has withdrawn the temporary shutdown and fully resumed production from Saturday.
Apex Spinning shares, with a face value of Tk10, closed 2.34 per cent higher at Tk363.70 on the DSE on Sunday.
