BNP Standing Committee member and candidate for the Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria–Pekua) Salahuddin Ahmed has said those who never believed in Bangladesh’s independence are now trying to divide politics along religious lines.
He said the people of Bangladesh do not support communal politics and called for national unity to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty.
Addressing an election roadshow at Manik Para in Paschim Boro Veola of Chakaria on Sunday, he said democracy had been abolished in the past but was restored repeatedly under BNP leadership.
The roadshow was organised by the local Union BNP.
He recalled the sacrifices of the recent student-people’s mass uprising, saying thousands of martyrs laid down their lives to build a democratic and discrimination-free Bangladesh.
He urged voters to cast their ballots in favour of the Sheaf of Paddy Dhaner Sheesh to fulfil the aspirations of the martyrs.
Outlining the party’s vision, he said the BNP does not want to produce educated unemployed people but aims to build a skilled and capable workforce.
He said the goal is to turn the country’s 18 crore people into 36 crore working hands.
He also outlined BNP plans on the environment, including large-scale tree plantation, canal excavation and reducing plastic use and pollution.
He said while other parties lack concrete plans and fuel religious division, the BNP is committed to restoring order to the economy after recent chaos.
The meeting was attended by Matamuhuri Organisational Upazila BNP President Jamil Ibrahim Chowdhury, General Secretary Hefajutur Rahman Tipu Mia and Organising Secretary Shoaibubul Islam Sabuj, among other local leaders.
