An earthquake was felt for a few seconds around 6:06pm on Saturday. Its magnitude was 4.3 on the Richter Scale with its epicentre in the capital’s Badda area according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
No casualties or damage have been reported so far.
According to BMD, there were two earthquakes in the span of a single second.
Earlier, another tremor occurred in the morning. The Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Observation and Research Centre reported that a tremor measuring 3.3 in magnitude was recorded at 10:36am on Saturday.
Initially, the Meteorological Department had stated that the epicentre of this 3.3 magnitude quake was the Baipail area in Ashulia, Savar. Later in the afternoon, it reported that the tremor’s origin was in Palash upazila of Narsingdi. The Meteorological Department stated that this error occurred due to a problem in the analysis.
The duty officer at the Earthquake Observation and Research Centre mentioned that this was a low-magnitude earthquake.
Prior to this, on Friday at 10:38 AM, a 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck Madhabdi in Narsingdi. This resulted in at least 10 fatalities, including children, and over 400 injuries.
