Manchester United are not planning any incoming or outgoing transfers during the January window, despite being firmly in the race for a Champions League place, manager Ruben Amorim said on Friday.
United travel to Leeds United on Sunday with momentum still intact. Amorim’s side sit sixth in the Premier League and could climb to fourth with a win at Elland Road, depending on other results.
Despite recent injuries and international absences, United are only three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool and level on points with Chelsea in fifth.
Amorim made it clear there will be no mid-season reshaping of his squad.
“We have no conversation to have any change in the squad,” the Portuguese coach told reporters.
“There is a process and an idea that is going to continue. We are near the Champions League places, but we are also close to eight teams behind us, so the focus has to be on the next game.”
He also dismissed speculation linking Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee with a move to Roma, saying no player had approached him about leaving.
“None have asked,” Amorim said. “I don’t expect them to come to me and ask anything.”
Amorim expects to work with largely the same group that drew 1–1 with bottom side Wolverhampton Wanderers in midweek, although he acknowledged the ongoing fitness concerns.
Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt remain sidelined with injuries, while Kobbie Mainoo is struggling with a calf problem. Captain Bruno Fernandes is also unavailable due to a hamstring injury.
“We shall see tomorrow after training,” Amorim said. “I don’t think anyone is going to recover, but we will see.”
United will also be without Noussair Mazraoui, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo, all of whom are away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Amorim warned of a difficult test against Leeds, highlighting their pace and intensity, but remained confident in his side’s ability to cope.
“They have a lot of pace and sometimes we struggle with that,” he said.
“They are confident, but we have shown we can win any game in any situation — and we will try to do that again.”
