Popular Dhallywood actor Amin Khan is set to make his big-screen comeback after a lengthy hiatus with director Mohammad Iqbal’s upcoming film Gulshaner Chameli.
The veteran actor is returning to cinema nearly eight years after his last film. The project’s cast was officially unveiled during its mahurat ceremony at a five-star hotel in Dhaka on Saturday.
Speaking about his return, Amin Khan said he was delighted to be back in front of the camera.
“It feels wonderful to be working in films again after such a long time. I would say I finally got the right opportunity. I took a long break because, for some reason, nothing felt like the right fit. When Iqbal approached me with this project, I felt it was the right film to return with. It also features many talented artistes, and we will all do our best to deliver a good film,” he said.
According to the makers, Gulshaner Chameli explores politics, the abuse of power and the darker realities of elite society.
The story centres on a sex worker who repeatedly becomes a victim of powerful people despite committing no crime.
The film also stars Indian actress Madhumita Sarcar, veteran actress Rozina, Azmeri Haque Badhan, Omar Sani, Misa Sawdagar, Ashish Khandaker, Mukit Zakaria and several others.
Production is expected to begin in November, subject to schedule.
Amin Khan made his film debut in 1993 with Obujh Duti Mon, directed by Mohammad Hossain.
Over a career spanning more than three decades, he has appeared in numerous successful films and established himself as one of Dhallywood’s leading actors.
Although he remained active on television and in other engagements, his appearances in films became less frequent after 2010.
His most recent release was Direct Action, directed by Sadek Siddiqui. While the film was released after 2018, it had been shot during 2018–19.
With Gulshaner Chameli, Amin Khan is now preparing for a long-awaited return to the silver screen.
