A joint forces team has detained Mahbub, a former driver of Ali Riaz – special assistant to the chief adviser, on allegations of attempting to leak question papers of the primary teacher recruitment examination.
According to sources, Mahbub previously worked as the personal driver of Ali Riaz and was known to be close to him. He was detained on Thursday afternoon from in front of the Public Service Commission (PSC) building in Dhaka.
Based on information provided by Mahbub, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel later arrested the alleged ringleader of the syndicate, Billal Hossain, from Tangail.
After the detention, Mahbub was handed over to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station late at night by joint forces personnel.
The primary teacher recruitment examination is scheduled to be held on Friday afternoon. Sources said the Billal–Mahbub group had allegedly been collecting money from various individuals by claiming they would leak the question papers.
Acting on intelligence information, joint forces personnel contacted Mahbub posing as question paper buyers. He was later detained during the operation.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Monirul Islam told TIMES of Bangladesh around midnight that he had heard that the joint forces had detained an individual.
However, he said the police had not yet received the detainee into their custody.
