Rajbari-1 Member of Parliament Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam is set to take oath as a state minister in the BNP government.
A festive mood has spread across his constituency following news of his appointment, with supporters celebrating the development.
The government has appointed Sreepur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Barrister Sajib Ahmed as the focal officer for the state minister.

In the parliamentary election for the Rajbari-1 constituency, which comprises Sadar and Goalanda, Khaiyam contested under the Sheaf of Paddy symbol and secured 154,541 votes.
He defeated his nearest rival Md Nurul Islam, who contested under the Scales symbol and received 101,092 votes.
Khaiyam won the seat by a margin of 53,449 votes.
