World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz is set to return to action at next month’s Cincinnati Open after being included in the tournament’s entry list.
If the Spaniard takes part, it will be his first appearance since suffering an injury in the opening round of the Barcelona Open in April.
Alcaraz later withdrew from the Madrid and Rome tournaments before missing the French Open, where he was the defending two-time champion.
The 22-year-old also sat out Wimbledon, where his rival Jannik Sinner claimed the title for the second straight year on the London grass after defeating Germany’s Alexander Zverev, the world No. 2.
A return in Cincinnati would give Alcaraz valuable match practice ahead of his US Open title defence at Flushing Meadows, which begins at the end of August.
