Awami League leader Prolay Chaki has died while in custody.
He breathed his last at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital at around 9pm on Sunday.
Prolay Chaki was a music artiste and served as cultural secretary of the Pabna district unit of the Awami League and general secretary of the district Awami Shilpi Goshthi.
He also served as joint secretary for culture at the Banmali Shilpakala Kendra.
Pabna Jail Superintendent Omar Faruk said Prolay Chaki fell ill while in custody at Pabna District Jail on Friday morning and was admitted to Pabna General Hospital.
As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment, he said.
He had been suffering from heart disease and diabetes, the jail superintendent added.
Family members said his body will be taken to Pabna on Monday after post-mortem examinations.
Prolay Chaki was the eldest son of late Lakkhi Das Chaki, a cultural organiser and actor of the district.
He was arrested on 16 December morning from his residence in Patharatala by the Detective Branch of police in connection with a case filed over the anti-discrimination movement and had been in custody at Pabna District Jail since then.
