Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will deploy additional traffic personnel across the capital to reduce congestion and ensure smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made on Monday by Md Anisur Rahman, additional commissioner (Traffic) of the DMP, during a coordination meeting held at the DMP headquarters with representatives of shopping malls and business communities.
Addressing the meeting, Anisur Rahman urged business owners to work closely with law enforcement to prevent traffic gridlock and keep footpaths clear for pedestrians during the busy Ramadan period.
He also called on shopping mall authorities to assign volunteers in front of and around their premises to help manage crowds and maintain orderly traffic flow.
The meeting focused on overall law and order, security measures, and traffic management strategies in shopping centres throughout the Dhaka metropolitan area in preparation for Ramadan.
Md Sarwar, additional commissioner (Admin) of the DMP, said traffic congestion remains one of the city’s most pressing challenges.
He noted that, in addition to members of the Traffic Division, personnel from the Crime Division and other units would be deployed to help ease congestion during the month.
Sarwar emphasised the importance of public cooperation and adherence to traffic regulations, expressing hope that with collective efforts, the holy month would pass peacefully and without major disruptions.
Senior DMP officials, including joint commissioners and deputy commissioners of police, along with representatives from various shopping malls and business bodies, attended the meeting and shared their views on ensuring security and smooth traffic management during Ramadan.
