Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has warned that strict action will be taken against any member of the police who provides illegal advantages to leaders or activists of any political party.

He made the remarks on Tuesday afternoon while speaking to journalists after a meeting of the core committee held at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In response to a question about whether action would be taken if police favour a particular party during the election, the adviser said, “We have already formed an Electoral Inquiry Committee for the polls.

If anyone is found negligent or biased in any way, they will be brought under the law immediately. Previously, such incidents were only recorded in general diaries, but this time legal action will follow right away.

”When asked about directives for the police, the adviser emphasised, “My instruction to the police is clear, the election must be free, fair, credible, and festive. Anyone from the police involved in misconduct will face legal consequences.”

Replying to another query about whether the army will have magistracy powers during the election, the adviser stated, “The army already possesses such authority. Questions about whether those powers will be withdrawn during the election can only be addressed at that time.”
