An accused reportedly escaped from police custody at the Old Bus Stand in Thakurgaon town on Friday night.
The fugitive has been identified as Mohammad Saidar, 32, son of Shamsul Haque, of Panchagarh’s Atwari upazila.
The incident occurred around 10:18pm while Saidar was being taken from Dhaka to Atwari, said Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station Officer‑in‑charge Shahjahan Ali.
OC Shahjahan said Saidar had been arrested by Rapid Action Battalion in Dhaka’s Tongi area last Thursday in connection with a case. He was handed over to Dhaka’s Airport Police Station and later transferred to Atwari police.
The police team stopped at the Thakurgaon bus stand, where Saider suddenly ran away from their custody, witnesses said.
Thakurgaon Sadar police were coordinating with Atwari police to apprehend the accused and that operations were underway.
