The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to file two separate cases against Awami League politician Saber Hossain Chowdhury and his wife Rehana Chowdhury for concealing illegal assets worth Tk 39.22 crore.
ACC Director General Akhter Hossain made the disclosure at a briefing at its office on Thursday.
The graft watchdog decided to file a corruption case against the former environment, forest and climate change minister just 3 months away from the next general election. There are allegations that Saber was allegedly playing a role in organising the Awami League, despite the party’s activities being banned.
ACC said Saber has made suspicious transactions of more than Tk 124 crore through 21 bank accounts from 1989 to 2025. On the other hand, his wife Rehana made suspicious transactions of Tk 150 crore through 3 bank accounts between 1999 to 2025.
A team of ACC’s Deputy Director Saiduzzaman and Assistant Deputy Director Subimal Chakma launched the inquiry.
