The government has appointed Muhammad Abdul Muhith, Rector of the Foreign Service Academy, as Bangladesh’s next High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
The Public Administration Ministry issued a gazette notification on 24 August confirming his two-year contractual appointment.
A career diplomat with more than three decades of experience, Muhith has served in key diplomatic postings in New York, Vienna, Washington DC and several major Middle Eastern and European capitals.
His diplomatic career has focused on UN governance, sustainable development, peacebuilding and institutional reforms, with extensive experience in multilateral diplomacy and international negotiations.
Muhith has worked in an era of what he describes as a global “polycrisis”, marked by climate change, geopolitical fragmentation, prolonged conflicts and rapid technological transformation, including the rise of artificial intelligence.
Throughout his career, he has sought to promote Bangladesh’s national interests through principled, consensus-based diplomacy and multilateral engagement.
He previously served as Bangladesh’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.
