All five children who went missing after falling into a river in Madarganj, Jamalpur, have been found dead.
While the bodies of four children were recovered earlier, body of 12-year-old Boishakhi Akhter, daughter of Hosen Ali in Madarganj area, remained missing. Her body was recovered from the Katakhali river in Charbhartiani on Sunday morning.
The deceased are identified as Abu Hasan, 8, and Polly Akter, 12, children of expatriate Dudu Mia; their cousin Chaiba Akter, 12; and Kulsum Akter, 12, daughter of Azad, from the same area.
Locals and the Fire Service said that Abu Hasan first fell from their boat in the Katakhali river on Friday. The others also fell into the water and drowned one by one while they were trying to save him.
Fire service divers recovered the bodies of four children later. Boishakhi’s body was found on Sunday morning. Her body has been handed over to her family.
Md Saifullah Saif, officer-in-charge of Madarganj Police Station, confirmed the incident.
